GLASS BY MANUFACTURER

This section has been created to help people identify glass by manufacturer. Non-decanter items are also included in this section.

One of the major problems for glass collectors is knowing who made what. The bulk of antique glass has no makers mark, and for much of the very early stuff it seemed makers were copying each other furiously depending on what was selling. This is where you need to place your trust in the hands of scholars who have access to original records and subsequently write books on the subject. For UK glass, Whitefriars is the manufacturer with the best books and I think this has fuelled its collectable status. Other manufacturers such as Thomas Webb and Stuart Crystal are not so well documented to the public so you need to pick up the bits of information where you see it and hope you are not missing too much.
